Jyllandsringen 1969 Dollie

Dollie-working-on-B8FVA

Our Chevron B8 FVA being polished expertly by Dollie, I was always proud to present the best prepared cars to the circuits. I was taught at an early stage of my career that the car presentation/preparation was very important and this was taught by Tim Hammond who used to work for Team Elite 62 before he came to Avalon Racing. I think of Tim’s words when ever I am cleaning cars.

1968 Denmark 1st lap racing

1st-heat-racing

A great shot of the 1st lap racing. Terry Hunter leads in Porsche 906 of Mike d’Udy, no.27. Chevron B8 of Trevor Twaites No.25 follows, behind is Barrie in B8 No.27 and the Nomad of Mark Konig, No.20. Peter Sadler in his Ford GT40, much to big and powerful for this track. In the back ground is Nigel Morrison’s B8 No.23.Then there is Peter Jackson in his Lotus 47 going backwards ! No.8. This was pretty close racing and overtaking not that easy but being nimble was better than being powerful at this circuit.

1969 Chevron B8 FVA

On-track-side-view

More from Denmark collection from Morten Alstrup, this time 1969, a good side shot of the B8 FVA. Chassis number BO8-DBE68. This car was sold in France to the Biarritz Porsche dealer in 1970 but what ever happened to the car after that I am not sure. This was about the best B8 of the 69 season winning three International races outright [ Wunstorf, Jyllandsringen and Zandvoort ] plus numerous class wins in the up to 1600cc class. A shame we do not know what happened to it.

1968 MGB with the top down.

MGB-with-the-top-down

In 1968 an MGB with the top down was a real sensation, here we see the pre race promo for the Danish Grand Prix with this charming local lady drawing some attention to the benefits of open air motoring in the MGB.

Brostrom Spins

Brostrom-spins

Maybe this is why RIchard Brostrom did not figure in the results as here he is spinning out of the lead in one of the heats.Barrie takes avoiding action right behind the spinning 906 Porsche. A couple of years later Brostrom was driving a Porsche 908 with great effect, winning some good races.

Richard Brostrom leads Smith & Twaites.

Brostrom-Smith-Twaites

More from Denmark 1968, Here Richard Brostrom 24, Porsche 906 leads Barrie and Trevor Twaites Chevron No.25. My records have Brostrom down as a DNF.

What I learned recently is that Richard Brostrom was running the Ecurie Bonnier Lola cars at Le Mans in 1972, they were in the next pit to us.I am really sorry that I was not aware of that at the time. Of course poor Jo was tragically killed during that race.

Danish Grand Prix 1968, here I am leading the heat [there were five heats over two days] in the winning Chevron with a 1600cc twin cam Vegantune engine. My thanks to Morten Alstrup for helping with a host of images from the Danish races. much appreciated, I am so pleased to share them with all.I will post them during the next few weeks.

Hunter goes gardening

Just got some great photos from Denmark, this one shows Terry Hunter in Mike d Udy’s Porsche 906. Terry who was well known for rallying tries the “off road” technique in the 1968 Danish GP. Barrie in car 21 takes avoiding action while Terry does some muck spreading!
