In 1969 Barrie sold the blue twin cam B8 [BO8-DBE56] to David Purley and purchased new B8 from Red Rose Motors who had ordered an extra chassis from Chevron. This was fitted with a new Cosworth FVA engine with a power increase over the 68 car to 245 bhp, a potent package which bought much success.

Barrie remembers that the B8 FVA was a joy to drive, fast, forgiving and very rewarding.

The B8 FVA won 3 international races outright in 1969, Wundstorf, Zandvoort and Danish Grand Prix again plus class wins at Magny-Cours, Dijon, Montlhéry, Magny Cours again. That was the year which Barrie qualified to join the prestigious British Racing Drivers Club.

During a visit to David Piper’s home, then in Rosebury Avenue, David told Barrie he really should join the BRDC. He proposed him, signed the application for membership there and then. The late Tony Lanfranchi lived above David and he signed as the seconder. It was sound advice to join the Club.

Joining the BRDC was a life time achievement as he is now a life member of the club.
